Limitations of the Apple warranty

 For each purchase of an iPhone, every buyer is offered an extended warranty, called Applecare (to care, in English means to take care of, to be in the care of…).




In summary, this contract indicates to the purchaser of the precious sesame of the brand with the bitten apple, that the brand will be able to take care of him in the event of a breakdown.

In France, for all products, an automatic one-year warranty is mandatory. Applecare therefore proposes to double the warranty period. Until recently, the latter took care of bugs and other problems that are not the fault of the owner of an iPhone.

That is to say that improper handling rendering the device unusable was not within the scope of Applecare, despite €69 in warranty costs. Since then, Apple has chosen to increase support, now even taking into account misuse, and raising the price to €99.

But it also sets some counterparts.

What is actually in this guarantee?

Applecare+ (that is now its name) behaves like insurance. It will replace the phone in the event of a breakdown, fall and even a broken screen even if you have other alternatives .

Be careful, however, only phone malfunctions are taken into account, not aesthetic defects. However, in the event of a broken screen, and even if this in no way prevents the proper use of the iPhone, there is a good chance that Apple will still replace the phone , as a matter of brand image. .

In practice, the customer will have to pay €69 to receive a new phone, even in the event of a broken screen due to the customer's fault. Which makes it a cheap mistake.
But you will have to be careful not to repeat breakage, or submersion by liquid more than twice during the duration of the contract .

Beyond that, the guarantee will no longer apply. Likewise, intentionally inflicted breaks will not be supported either. No need to grab your hammer to acquire a new iPhone at a very reduced price.

On the other hand, the USB cord, as well as the charger, are also protected by the warranty. And that's good news.

Limitations of the Apple Warranty

Apple therefore imposes certain limits:

  • No willful breakage at the risk of seeing the warranty contract terminated;
  • No modification of the phone. That is to say, no opening of the hood is permitted;
  • Exclusive to Apple and its network for repairs. If Apple realizes that a person, even a professional (who is not Apple approved, therefore), the warranty will not work.

Along the same lines as the last point, Applecare+ extends its warranty to the OS and software, strictly Apple, of course.
But declines all responsibility if the user has exchanged their stable version for a beta version of iOS . There is no guarantee there either.

All in all, the Applecare+ warranty is useful if the phone falls on the ground and the screen cracks, or in the bathtub and drowns.
Given the efficiency and stability of the OS and software, there is little risk in this regard.

This means €99 of insurance in the event of a fall of the phone and/or abnormal wear of the charger, battery and cables.
